Every time you do maintenance on your car, you have to unscrew and replace a tin can that looks like a small can on the car. This is our oil filter, which is replaced along with our engine oil .
Then this oil filter, how many kilometers does it usually change? How long is its longest lifespan? How often can we change it?
Before we understand this problem, let's take a look at this oil filter.
Our current oil filters are basically this kind of spin-on oil filter. There is a round tin box on the outside, which is wrapped with folded filter paper. This filter paper is the core material of our oil filter. The current oil filter paper It is heat-cured, so it has a certain hardness and strength. Unlike our ordinary paper, it can withstand oil pressure and is not easy to deform. This oil filter is screwed in the middle of the oil circuit in this way, with the oil pan below and the engine above. Its main function is to filter impurities and dirt in the oil, provide clean lubricating oil for the engine, reduce wear and prolong engine life.
The oil filter has an oil inlet and an oil outlet. The oil in the oil pan flows into the oil filter from the oil inlet check valve. The dirty oil that flows in is on the edge of the oil filter, outside the filter paper, and then filtered through the filter paper. Clean oil flows out from the center of the filter and is sprayed onto all parts of the engine.
This is a normal working process, but there will be some special circumstances. For example, our oil filter has been used for a long time, and there are too many impurities on the filter paper of the oil filter, which will block the filter paper holes and cause the oil to flow out. If the amount becomes smaller, the amount of oil entering the engine will decrease, which will affect the lubrication and operation of the engine. What should we do? In fact, at this time, in order to ensure the amount of oil flowing into the engine and maintain the oil pressure, there is a spring valve at the bottom of the oil filter, called a bypass valve, which will automatically open to allow the unfiltered oil to flow from the valve at the bottom. Go in, join with the oil in the center of the oil filter, and flow into the engine together, but at this time, the mixed oil is oil with impurities.
Ok, let's go back and say, how long can this oil filter last?
In fact, first of all, the quality of our oil filter is not a problem, and the filter paper will not be deformed due to oil pressure and soaking in a short period of time.
However, the service life of the oil filter is mainly judged according to its filtering ability, not its own quality. As we just mentioned, if there are too many impurities and grease in the oil, it will adhere to the filter paper and block the filter holes, resulting in low oil pressure, and the oil with impurities will directly enter the engine. Filtration, in fact, this is the time to replace the filter.
Therefore, the replacement of the oil filter depends on the cleanliness of the oil. For example, let's say we newly changed the engine oil and filter element. If we didn't change the engine oil when we ran 5,000 kilometers for maintenance, but only changed the oil filter, but the time to replace the new oil filter next time will not reach 5,000 kilometers. Yes, it may be replaced every 2000 kilometers or 3000 kilometers, because the old engine oil has more impurities than the new engine oil.
Therefore, in most cases, the service life of our oil filter is 5,000 kilometers, which is aimed at new oil.
However, some of our friends may drive less, maybe only 3,000 kilometers in half a year, but at this time the expiration date of the engine oil has expired, and it is time to change the engine oil. Generally, we will also change it together with the oil filter.
So, let's sum up, in most cases, the oil filter is changed every 5,000 kilometers, but if it is less than 5,000 kilometers, as long as the engine oil is changed, the machine filter is generally replaced together. For some of our cars with long-lasting oil, for example, friends who change the oil every 8,000 kilometers or 10,000 kilometers, you can also choose some longer-lasting machine filters, such as Bosch, KN, MANN, HDAG, etc. , some can reach a lifespan of 8000-10000 kilometers.
